Nurses Week 2020: My letter to nurses on the front lines

To our dedicated and caring nurses:

I know these past few months have been difficult for everyone. Even in the darkest of times, we are reminded of the many helpers who shine bright in our community. As we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am eternally grateful to the many nurses who are working around the clock to keep our families healthy and safe.

With National Nurses Week upon us, we celebrate hardworking and caring nurses like you who continue to provide top-notch care during these difficult times. I want take this opportunity to thank you for all you do to keep our families healthy. The level of dedication, skill and tireless commitment that nurses like you bring to the medical field is truly remarkable, and I can’t thank you enough for your service.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has uprooted our daily lives, I also want you to know that I’m still here working for you and continue to do all that I can to support nurses working on the front lines during this crisis. I continue to be a strong and vocal sponsor of the Safe Staffing for Quality Care Act to establish nurse-to-patient ratios at all acute care facilities, hospitals and nursing homes in New York (A.2954). Nurses do invaluable work and this legislation will help improve conditions and prevent burnout.
As essential workers, you continue to provide the critical care we need to keep moving forward and I’ll always have your back. You are the heroes of our time and deserve our utmost gratitude.

Your friend,

By Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara
